Venice, 11 October 2022 - "Awareness of the marine environment acquired by participating in a sporting event in line with the dictates of sustainability and attention to beach cleaning" with these words Roberta Nesto, president of the Conference of Mayors of the Veneto coast which met in Jesolo last October 7th, awarded Venicemarathon with the 2022 Award "Summit del Mare - Costa Veneta Green Lab" for the first edition of the Venice Lido Beach Trail which took place last September 25th at Lido di Venezia.

An innovative sporting event awarded, on this occasion, for its ability to safeguard the habitat in which it took place and for the awareness-raising activities towards its participants.

“We are very proud to have received this recognition, which rewards our commitment and our attention to the environment and sustainability, values in which we have always believed and which we implement in all the sporting events we organize. On behalf of Venicemarathon, I thank the president Nesto and all the mayors of the Conference, for this award which gives us even more impetus and enthusiasm in view of the next editions" - this is the comment of the president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva.

Success for the new and spectacular trail on the beach organized by Venicemarathon which took place today at the Venice Lido.
The president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva: “Good first time! We have successfully archived a debut that already shows the foundations for a glorious future”

Venice, 25 September 2022 - A sea swollen with foaming waves gilded by a warm sun, which tried to peek through the clouds, served as a sublime setting for the first edition of the Venice Lido Beach Trail, the brand new trail organized by Venicemarathon with the support of Venezia Spiagge and promoted by the Municipality of Venice, which took place this morning on the Lido of Venice between the beach, pine forest and dam over distances of 5 and 11 km, accompanied by the 2 km Alì Family Run.

The race started at 10.30 from the Blue Moon bathing establishment and was anticipated by greetings from the councilor for the budget of the Municipality of Venice Michele Zuin, who was also competing in the 11K. Right from the start, Igor Fontanella immediately took the lead, the athlete registered for the 'Aristide Coin Venezia' club, who always remained in the lead until the finish line, cut in a time of 40'18", with a gap of over a minute on Andrea Paggiarin (Venicemarathon) and Andrea De Stales (Atl. Mirano).

“I started strong and almost immediately took the lead because I felt really good - these are the words of Igor Fontanella - the track was quite demanding but really beautiful. I am happy to have won this first edition”.

Clear victory also in the women's field of the promising middle-distance runner of the Atl. Riviera del Brenta Beatrice Casagrande, who wore the Under 20 blue jersey at the European Road Race in Oderzo last week. Beatrice won the distance in 42'56", reaching fifth place in the general classification.

“It was a really beautiful race - commented Beatrice Casagrande - the stretch I preferred was the one in the pine forest because it reminds me a lot of the cross and there was a lot of spectators on the dam. Truly a splendid race and excellent organization, not only on the course but also in the services".

The roll of honor of this first edition of the Venice Lido Beach Trail is completed by Diego Carraro, 16-year-old soccer player for Mira's 'Galaxy', and the twenty-eight-year-old Mexican student of Environmental Sciences Maria Del Pilar, respectively first man and first woman of the 5K and Giulia Ghezzo, 13 years old, registered for the 'Triathlon Venezia' who crossed the finish line of the Alì Family Run first. Also noteworthy is the presence of Cristiano Carnevale, a visually impaired athlete and paratriathlon champion, who finished the demanding trail in 59'07".

The athletes had to face a very demanding route between the beach, sand dunes, pine forest and then the long and spectacular dam up to the San Nicolò lighthouse and back. A really tough trail, in a unique setting in Italy that won over the hearts of the many participants interviewed at the finish line and who expressed their strong approval.

The first assessment of the event was positive according to the top management of Venicemarathon and the sponsors on the stage of the awards.

"Good first, as they say in cinematic terms, an expression that fits perfectly for this new event that we have created today on the Lido of Venice and which we are convinced can grow a lot and have a successful future" – so the president of Venicemarathon Piero Rosa Salva.

The president and CEO of Venezia Spiagge Pierluigi Padovan, also competing in the 11K, was also happy with the collaboration: “I thank Venicemarathon for this beautiful synergy that has created additional tourism for the Lido. We have been infected by the positive charge of the runners and next year we hope that there will be a real invasion of athletes".

Another sponsor, Franco Marangoni of 1/6H Sport, was also in the race: "Today I discovered a wonderful place like the Lido of Venice and I really enjoyed running on the beach and facing the sea".

“The Lido is a magical place and we immediately wanted to marry this new adventure because we like to be pioneers of new projects.” – the words of Alessio Ranallo of Compressport.

Finally Lorenzo Cortesi, general coordinator of Venicemarathon, reiterated the importance of this event in the future for the economic impact on the area and thanked all the police forces who attended today, all the sponsors and the over 100 volunteers present along the route .

The party then continued with the Pasta Party on the beach offered to all participants.

The Blue Moon will host the departures, both of the trail and of the Alì Family Run, scheduled at 10.30, the arrivals and the Lido Beach Village with all pre and post race services such as bathrooms, showers and bag storage.

The route will be quite challenging, with the first two kilometers that will develop between the beach and sandy dunes, before entering the pine forest, where the athletes will have to run along the marked trails, in order not to damage the delicate ecosystem. Once the stretch of vegetation is finished, the competitors will return to the beach again, and then take the spectacular dam that leads to the San Nicolò lighthouse. At this point they can choose to deviate for the 5K, or to continue for another 3 kilometers along the dam, and then take a tour around the lighthouse and always return along the dam. The mid-race refreshment area with water and the intermediate timekeeping will also be positioned at the lighthouse. The route will then run again through the dunes and, in the last kilometer, along the shoreline to the finish line, located right on the seafront in front of the Lido Beach Village.

The track will be well marked by over 100 volunteers who, in addition to showing the way to the competitors, will also enforce some good behavioral rules such as not running on the rocks, not going off the paths or throwing waste on the ground. The Lido Civil Protection unit will also be present.

In the race there will also be the "Bls-Run-Team ... resuscitators in the race", or a team of people including doctors, nurses and volunteers, all holders of the Basic Life Support training certificate, or capable of carrying out the support maneuvers of basic vital functions. While running their own race normally, these operators will be scattered throughout the course and in the event of a cardiac arrest episode they will be immediately available for help.

Once crossed the finish line, the athletes will receive the participation medal and will find the final refreshment with San Benedetto water, Palmisano biscuits, Pro Action supplements and Bavaria beer.

The first three men and the first three women of the competitive race of 5 and 11 kilometers will be awarded.

The race package includes the official Compressport yellow fluo tank top in technical and breathable material, bib and timing chip, medical assistance, refreshment along the route and final refreshment, participation medal, final diploma, Pasta Party, ticket for bicycle transport by Ferry Boat and bicycle storage and gifts from sponsors.

The competitors of the Ali Family Run will also receive the official t-shirt and will find the final refreshment at the end of the run-walk.

Along the way there will also be photographers from Phototoday who will immortalize the adventure of the athletes both on the course and at the finish line.
